RAMLEA TURNS 4

13 - 16 December 2007

MIM-RAMLEANS at Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB)

The MIM-Raja Mohar Life Enrichment Awards Programme (MIM-RAMLEA) 2007 was held from the 13 till the 16 December at Flamingo Hotel, Jalan Ampang. This event catered specially for retirees and those contemplating retirement. It is a fully funded programme by the Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) of Germany with the aim to focus on the importance of awareness and vital role of understanding and practicing a standard ethical universal value despite the diversified religions and cultures within the Malaysian society.

A total of 28 participants from various states in Malaysia from various working and ethnic background between the age of 50 - 70 came to renew themselves via reading, soul-searching, discussing, deliberating, listening, visiting, reflecting and to address contemporary issues placed before them. A closing ceremony dinner was hosted for the RAMLEANS and Yang Amat Berbahagia Toh Puan Norella Talib and family members of the late Yang Amat Berbahagia Mulia Raja Tun Mohar Raja Badiozaman graced this occasion.

MIM-RAMLEA hopes to revive this "crystallised intelligence" and introduce the concept of "mutual dependence" where participants explore the dynamics between "giving" and "receiving", between being needed and being needy. The programme exposes participants to readings, talks, discussions, visitations and reflections that will help them rediscover themselves and the society around them. It will help them find purpose and direction in life by participating in activities as well as building on rewarding relationships. It is hoped that from this experience, participants will play a more active role in community development programmes putting their wealth of knowledge and experience to good use while continuing to create value in society.

Participants were taken to FRIM to enjoy the beauty of nature and then to Malaysian Association for the Blind (MAB).

Not only did the RAMLEANS enjoyed each others' company during this four day residential programme, they also left with added knowledge and renewed spirit to "reinvent" life after retirement
