The 2-day 2006 National Conference On Internal Auditing held on 18 & 19 September 2006 organised by The Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia (IIA) with the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) as a supporting partner, aims to bring to delegates issues and topics related to the
auditing profession. Dr Wilson Tay, CEO of MIM, presented a session on Knowledge Management titled `Knowledge Management (KM) - Addressing the Next Waves of Challenges in the Knowledge Economy'.
"Increasing globalisation, trade liberalisation, emerging new and disruptive
techonologies have resulted in rapid innovation and a change in today's business models
and rules," said Dr Wilson. "The need for KM in this knowledge economy is
essential as the competitive edge is gained through an organisation's ability to exploit
its knowledge about customer behaviour, markets and economies faster than its
competitors." KM is essential to achieving long term sustainable performance and
profitability for an organisation. |
He further remarked that the challenges and impact of KM on internal auditing VITAL-ity will be in the control of risk management, gathering of business intelligence, enabling corporate performance measurement, safeguarding of intangible assets, theft and loss of proprietary knowledge and mobility of workers.
The conference was attended by more than 600 delegates who are company directors, chief executive officers, chief financial officers, company secretaries, audit managers and those who are in internal audit, risk control and governance.
