Thirty senior officials from Asean countries participating in the 16th Joint Asean Senior Police Officers' Course at the Polis DiRaja Malaysia Academy attended a session by Dr Wilson Tay, CEO MIM on "Effectiveness of Human Capital in Organisations" which was held at Maktab PDRM in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.

The participants at the 2-week programme comprise of senior police officers from the Asean countries of Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Indonesia, Philippines, Singapore, Vietnam and Malaysia.

The 2-hour session served to address the key concerns, changing trends of present and future workforce and the importance of a human capital and talent management strategy and development programme in maintaining a professional, high performance and achievement-oriented police workforce.

"The need to recruit right at the source is fundamental in ensuring the quality of human capital in any organisation and also the police workforce" said Dr Wilson. In recruitment, there are tools to gauge the knowledge, skills and behaviours of the candidate, but it is difficult to look at what is `below the waterline' like values, traits, ethics and attitudes. Hence the need for an integrated talent management and succession planning cycle of recruitment, development, retention, succession and engagement is important.
