MIM-RICOH National Management Game 2009

THE GAME
The National Management Game (NMG) is a computer-simulated business game which allows you to learn to make management decisions in a REAL business world. Through the NMG, you will have a chance to pit your management and business skills against other competing teams for market share and increased profits.

How can a organisation be managed with maximum efficiency so as to make profits? That is the essence of the Game. Sound finance, production, investment, pricing and marketing decisions and strategies are required in order to compete successfully.

The NMG is therefore essentially a realistic simulation of business life in which a number of organisation (represented by various participating teams) compete against each other in a common business environment. It is based on the SINEW 4 Model.

THE BENEFITS
The Game simulates the real world. It allows you to practise specific skills in risk taking, decision-making and negotiating in the theoretical situation of a Game before applying them to the real world. You can relate to the issues raised during the Game without fear of failure.

The Game demonstrates clearly how a organisation works, the role of each of its principal parts and how team members must all work together to achieve optimum results.

The NMG is played by teams, not individuals. It encourages teamwork and decision-making. Each team must learn to work together, and in so doing, learn about themselves, and their roles in their organisations. The interactive exchange of ideas and experience will facilitate their development of interpersonal skills.

The NMG encourages teams taking part to plan strategically ahead to maximise whatever resources that are available to them and to be able to forecast the consequences of the decisions they make.

PLAYING THE GAME
Each team of four members organises itself to carry out the management responsibilities of the organisation under its control. The team has to compete against other companies in manufacturing and marketing, two common products - Products A and D.

Each team will be given a set of accounts and relevant data. Using this information, the team has to plan and decide on the allocation of resources with the objective of maximising profit.

The decisions taken by each team will be fed into the computer with the SINEW 4 Model for processing. Each team's performance is measured against its competitors.

A management report with data on the team's performance and profit/loss account will be used by the team as the starting point for the next Trading Period.

The National Management Game is played on a knock-out basis. In the preliminary rounds, groups of three to ten teams each are formed whereby each group competes in a self contained contest. At the end of each round, the winning team and possibly, the runner up will proceed to the next round to compete against other winning teams in a new group.
