Esteem needs

It is associated with Abraham Maslow's hierarchy of needs theory. In this theory, Maslow talks of physical, safety, social, esteem and self-actualization needs. Esteem needs would refer to a desire for self-respect, or for the appreciation or recognition of one's abilities or talents by others. It must be earned through one's own performance and capabilities. This recognition gives rise to a sense of self-importance, and builds self-confidence and much pride. This is often done through the organization's systems where peers and superiors appreciate one's work and performance. Sometimes this can be in the form of new and important projects to manage, certificates of appreciation, titles and so on. All this gives rise to a sense of self- accomplishment on the part of the individual.
