Serving The Nation's Managers To Serving The Nation

you most to take on this unique position at MIM?
Throughout my career, I have always worked for corporate profit-oriented companies. MIM is
unique in many ways, as an association, profit is not necessarily its primary mandate.
Providing value to its members through delivery of educational programmes efficiently and
effectively, and offering desired courses to support economic trends are critical. When
this position at MIM became available, I had the opportunity to discuss its challenges
with MIM senior leadership in detail and candidly about the important issues requiring
immediate attention and my mandate. After careful consideration, I was convinced that I
could positively contribute and assist MIM in furthering its vision and meeting its
objectives. Therefore, there were many factors that attracted me to joining this unique
What do you think are MIM's strengths?
MIM's strength is in its dedicated people who are committed to MIM's vision, mission and
objectives. Also, the commitment of its members and trainers who believe MIM is the
organisation that best represents their interest in advancing their management skills will
continue to inspire the staff and MIM management team to stay the course since its
founding days. And finally, the array of best-in-class professional development courses
for Malaysian managers, developed specifically for our members.
How do you feel about having to leave MIM after only one year of serving the
I am proud to have served MIM. I have achieved my mandate within this time and I am very
confident that the next CEO can continue to build on the successes, perhaps with a
different management approach and style, but our senior leadership and the Court of
Emeritus Fellows and General Council will continue to provide the guidance to ensure the
quality of MIM services is maintained at the highest possible standards in order to
provide value to all its members. Besides, I will continue to support MIM and will remain
an MIM member participating in its growth for a long time to come.
Tell us about your fondest memory of having served with MIM.
It's the comradeship and rapport that I had developed with the team at MIM. The team
"dug in" and dealt with root causes in order to return MIM to profitability.
Despite some tense times, we managed to "right the ship."
The team did not complain when faced with adversity. It's the spirit of team work that I
will take away as the fondest memory while serving MIM. Keep it up team. Thank you all for
your personal commitment, efforts and support. Keep up being positive and focused in
whatever you do.

THE MINDSET OF CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENTS. THIS CAN ONLY BE ACHIEVED WITH AN OPEN MINDSET

How would you rate the Malaysian manager? What are his strengths and how can he
There can be no generalisation nor can there be a fair rating to label this diverse group
of professionals. Malaysian managers are known for their empathy and sensitivity to their
staff. In general, all managers have the responsibility to continuously learn new skills
and adopt the mindset of continuous improvements. This can only be achieved with an open
mindset, with a willingness to learn, adopt and implement proven, best management
practices. Hence, be open to changes. As we know, change is constant, especially in this
dynamic environment that we live in today.
What do you think the future holds for MIM?
MIM's future is as bright as ever! With its return to financial stability, I am confident
that MIM will be the institution of choice for post-university education focusing on
refining management skills. It is also the only association that is sufficiently large in
membership subscription that can make a difference to better develop our country's
competitive edge in this global economy.
Do you have any last message for the staff of MIM?
Thank you all for your support! It was all of you that made this turnaround possible in
record pace. Your dedication and personal commitment is greatly appreciated. Your
continued efforts as a team will ensure the future success of MIM.
Lastly, what can you tell us about the next step in your career progression?
You may be aware that I am leaving MIM to lead a newly formed corporation. It's a new
chapter of my life that I am looking forward to. I will have a new mandate that will
support their vision, mission and objectives. I look forward to creating the
infrastructure, designing the processes, recruiting the right management team and
producing a deliverable that will meet the 10th Malaysia Plan of being a leader in Green
Technology - "Greener Asia." My tenure at MIM had prepared me in many ways to
take on the reins of this new corporation. It will be an honour and my duty to serve my
nation at the same time.
We here at MIM would like to express our gratitude to Dr Nazily for all his contributions
to the Institute. Wishing you bon voyage and all the best in the future.
