'More Unlisted Companies Welcome To Join National Annual Corporate Report Awards (NACRA) 2004'
Released by : Bernama
Date : 3 June 2004 KUALA LUMPUR, June 3 (Bernama) -- The National Annual Corporate
Report Awards (NACRA) 2004 competition organisers encourage participation of non-listed
companies and other organisations such as charitable bodies, non-profit organisations and
the public sector.
"Although the majority of NACRA participants have always been the incorporated or
registered companies in Malaysia, we hope that more participants from non-listed companies
join us because their reports are always of high standards based on their previous reports
that we have received," NACRA 2004 Adjudication Committee Chairman, Lam Kee Soon said
at a press briefing, here Thursday.
Lam also said that beside the new recommended Overall Excellence Awards this year, there
will also be a special award to the non-listed companies.
Five categories of awards will be presented this year - Overall Excellence Awards for the
most outstanding annual report of the year, Industry Excellence Awards for companies
listed on the Main Board, Second Board and the MESDAQ Market, Presentation awards,
Enviromental Reporting award and Special Award for non-listed organisations, Lam said.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Nacra 2004 Organising Committee, Ken Pushpanathan said that the
awards aim to promote greater corporate accountability and more effective communication by
organiations through the publication of timely, informative, factual and reader-friendly
annual reports.
"This has became more important than ever before as the Malaysian capital market has
entered the disclosure-based regime, where investors have to assess the viability of their
investment based on information provided by the company," he added.
Pushpanathan also said that all companies listed on Bursa Malaysia automatically qualify
for NACRA but their annual reports are subjected to preliminary screening.
"Only those annual reports which meet all the preliminary screening criteria will
qualify for detailed adjudication," he added.
NACRA is an annual event jointly organised by the Malaysian Institue of Accountants (MIA),
the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) and The Malaysian Institute of Certified
Public Accountants (MICPA).
The closing date for submissions of entries for non public-listed companies and other
organisations for NACRA 2004 is July 30.
The awards will be presented on Nov 30, 2004.
