'Lifelong Learning : The Key to Survival'

KUALA LUMPUR, 17 AUGUST 2004 - The Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM), in collaboration with the MCA National Youth, today announced a series of 16 personal management programmes. Each programme is anticipated to have an enrolment of up to 100 participants. The series of programmes themed, Teambuilding: "Building Tomorrow Today", is part of the MCA Youth's campaign to encourage its members to go back to basics by embracing lifelong learning.

The programmes, to be launched in September 2004 by MCA President and Housing & Local Government Minister, YB Dato' Seri Ong Ka Ting, are specially designed for MCA Youth members at both the state and national levels. Beginning with headquarters in Kuala Lumpur, the programmes are expected to be rolled out over a period of 6 months in various states across the country.

Present at the press conference chaired by MCA National Youth Chairman, YB Datuk Ong Tee Keat, were the CEO of MIM, Mr Foo Sheh Loon, and the Group Managing Director of Bina Puri Holdings Bhd (one of the corporate sponsors of the programmes), YBhg Tan Sri Datuk Tee Hock Seng. YB Datuk Ong, who is also Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, later witnessed the presentation of a mock cheque to the value of RM30,000 by YBhg Tan Sri Dato' Tee to MCA Youth Secretary General, YB Liow Tiong Lai and Mr Foo.

"A manager's job (in the current environment) is not only to manage performance but also act as coach and mentor to team members to achieve Key Performance Indicators. Organisations, including organisations such as MCA, are responsible for crafting a training development framework of relevant and effective programmes to further develop members' talents.
At MIM, we believe that continuous training and lifelong learning is vital in the pursuit of excellence and a surviving in this ambiguous environment",
said Mr Foo when addressing members of the media.

Also present at the launch were members of the MCA Youth's Central Committee and representatives from MIM. The launch was held at a ceremony in the MCA's national headquarters at Jalan Ampang here.
