About the book
This is a favourite story of Ee, a story that will tell you
something about him."Shortly after I
took the plunge, to be my own boss, that is, I dropped by a friend's office, a friend
I had not seen for some time, to congratulate him on being conferred a
`datukship' title by the Sultan of one of the states. When I told him that I had
left my job to start a small training and consultancy business of my own, the Datuk's
immediate response was "You mad, kah, Ee?" Yes, the Datuk was shocked that I
would, at my age I was 50 at the time, you know - leave my comfortable job with a bank to
start a new life with an uncertain future all over again.
And do I have any regrets doing it? Yes, I have. I regret
very much that I didn't do it earlier, that I took 15 long years from the time I
wanted to be my own boss to the time I finally became one. Anyway, it's better late
than never."
What finally made Ee took the plunge after 15 long years is
also something he likes to share with aspirant own bosses. According to him, while lying
awake one night, he started to shake with fear when he saw in his mind images of himself
as a disappointed and bitter old man who kept asking himself the question, "What if I
had done it?"
