Good Morning and
welcome to this much-awaited event with Professor Clayton Christensen and Mr Mark Johnson
who will devote an entire day sharing with us insights of this seminar entitled
"Disruptive Innovation And New Market Growth".
Before I
introduce Professor Christensen and Mr Johnson, on behalf of the Malaysian Institute of
Management, I would like to record our appreciation to our collaborative partner,
Innosight, whom we are pleased to work with on this very significant event. And to our
supporting partners, the Malaysian Institute of Certified Public Accountants (MICPA), and
Malaysian Industry Government Group for High Technology (MIGHT), thank you for your
support. And of course, to all present here today and all whom have contributed in one way
or another to make today's event a reality, to you I say "thank you" for
your invaluable support.

Clayton
M. Christensen,
Harvard Business School Professor, and Co-founder of Innosight, is the Robert and Jane
Cizik Professor of Business
Administration
at the Harvard Business School, with a joint appointment in the Technology &
Operations Management
and General Management faculty groups. His research and teaching interests center on the
management of technological innovation, developing organizational capabilities, and
finding new markets for new technologies. |
Prior
to joining the Harvard Business School Faculty, Christensen served as chairman and
president of CPS Corporation, a firm that he co-founded with several MIT professors in
1984 which is now a publicly traded company. CPS is a leading developer of products and
manufacturing processes using advanced materials.
Christensen holds
a B.A. in Economics from Brigham Young University and an M. Phil. in Economics from Oxford
University, where he studied as a Rhodes Scholar. Christensen received an MBA from the
Harvard Business School in 1979, graduating as a George F. Baker Scholar. He was awarded a
DBA from the Harvard Business School in 1992.
Christensen won,
among others, the 1995 McKinsey Award for the best article published in the Harvard
Business Review. Christensen's book, The Innovator's Dilemma: When New
Technologies Cause Great Firms to Fail, received the Global Business Book Award for
the best business book published in 1997. He collaborated with Michael Raynor on The
Innovator's Solution: Creating and Sustaining Successful Growth,
which was published in October 2003. He is also author with Innosight partner Scott D.
Anthony and Erik Roth of Seeing
What's Next: Using the Theories of Innovation to Predict Industry Change,
published in 2004.

Mark
Johnson is
President and co-founder of Innosight. He has led consulting engagements within numerous Fortune 500 companies in a broad range of industries, including a U.S. defense contractor, a national laboratory, a commercial enterprise IT company, and a major medical device manufacturer. He recently led a large-scale innovation management project for the
government of Singapore. Many of the insights from Mark's client work can be found in
an article from the 2002 spring issue of Sloan Management Review entitled,
"Foundations for Growth: How to Build Disruptive New Businesses", which he co-authored with Clayton Christensen. |
As President of
Innosight, Mark has been a featured speaker on "Disruptive Innovation" at
several conferences in the automotive, healthcare, financial services, and venture capital
industries, and has presented to various other constituencies, including the Department of
Defense.
Mark received his
MBA from the Harvard Business School. He received a Master's degree in Civil
Engineering and Engineering Mechanics from Columbia University and a Bachelor's
degree in Aerospace Engineering from the United States Naval Academy.
