MIM Appreciation Night 2005

'Speech by Dr Wilson Tay, CEO of MIM

Date : 7 December 2005

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening.

It's been a month since I joined MIM, and it is a great pleasure for me to be working with the management team of MIM, MIM General Council and members of the Court of Fellows.

Prior to joining the MIM team, I envisioned MIM as the premier Institute for managerial learning for professionals who are keen on advancing the arts and science of management.

The past month had indeed proved this to be true and it has been an exciting experience for me. .

I am definitely looking forward to getting to know all of you better by the end of tonight.

In 2006, MIM will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary. MIM is proud to have played a part and contributed to 40 years of management excellence in Malaysia where we saw our economy transition from an Agriculture to Industrial then Technology and now Knowledge-based economy. We invite you to celebrate the 40th Year of Management Excellence with us next year.

The occasion of our gathering here this evening is to thank and acknowledge many people and organisations who have supported MIM over the years. This evening is for you. To the corporate clients who are here with us tonight, I may not remember all your faces yet but we will certainly be seeing a lot of each other in the near future.

Your presence here tonight speaks of your support and trust in the quality of MIM's training programmes and events.

This will certainly serve as an encouragement to the MIM team to continue to further improve and enhance on our management development and training portfolio.

With your staunch support, we at MIM believe that the common commitment of all towards the development in managerial skills training will augur well for the future of Malaysia's workforce as we move towards K-economy to create a human resource talent pool that is of international standards.

In the next 5 to 10 years, unless we train up our managers, we will fall behind because the economy has transitioned. We have moved from a very strong industrial based economy to now a knowledge based economy and somehow we have to equip our managers to be prepared for that.

The unsung heroes are the managers of yesterday, today and tomorrow. At MIM, we believe that the way forward is to ensure that our managers are well-developed and competent enough to meet the challenges of this new economy.

To members of the MIM Court of Fellows and General Council, I look forward to working together with the team to achieve the vision of MIM to be the premier and leading management organisation in Malaysia.

To the programme facilitators, thank you for your dedication and we look forward to your support in all MIM's training programmes.

To the ASEAN delegates who are with us tonight, welcome to MIM. We are indeed honoured by your presence here. We see your participation in MIM's programmes as an exchange of managerial knowledge between all our respective countries. We can learn from each other. And I hope that you will bring new-found memories of MIM and of Malaysia back to your homeland.

To MIM's business partners, we look forward to continued fruitful partnerships on projects together.

To the volunteers of MIM's social responsibility programmes, and NACRA adjudicators, thank you for the time and services rendered. Your efforts are much appreciated. I encourage you to continue to support MIM.

To the Management and all staff of MIM, I look forward to working alongside the MIM team towards achieving greater results for next year which promises to be an exciting year ahead for all of us.

Thank you all for your presence here tonight and with that please enjoy your dinner...
