MIM & IAC Executive Coaching Forum
Last Saturday, 24th February, the Malaysian Institute of Management (MIM) in collaboration with the Chapter of International Association of Coaching Malaysia (IAC) kicked off this year’s Executive Coaching Forum which focused on ‘The Journey of a Coach’. Leading this half-day forum was Prakash Santhanam, an experienced Talent Management practitioner, who shared his insights to the attendees on how they can lead the coaching culture within an organisation.
This was followed by an engaging discussion with participants who were eager to share their experience and opinions on the coaching industry. These discussions prompted authentic sharing from participants, from the negative connotations tied to coaching to better understanding a client’s business strategy when it comes to coaching. This lead to an engaging discussion on ‘What made a successful coach?’, and among factors included being a good listener, understanding the needs the person you are coaching, understanding your client’s business plan. Wrapping up the forum participants broke out in groups for a roundtable discussion and presented practical ways which they can take home to implement and work on towards enriching Malaysia’s coaching culture. Some of the key themes that were fleshed out during the discussion on driving a coaching culture were: – Nominating coaching icons who can be ambassadors to drive the coaching culture within organizations – Tapping into digital platforms to highlight success stories -Changing the negative perception of coaching through talks and engagement sessions … and more!
The rich ideas generated through this roundtable session lead to the formation of ‘MIM Coaching Community of Practice (CCOP)’ a group parked under MIM’s Facebook page that aims to engage dialogue within Malaysia’s Coaching Community. Moderated by industry experts, the group will carry tips, resources and enriching discussions updated regularly.
